EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)
EFT, commonly known as 'tapping' is a powerful tool that combines tapping on the same meridians as used in Chinese Medicine and energy psychology that works to physically alter your brain, energy system and body all at once. A practitioner will talk you through the current painful, negative emotions while you tap on certain points.
Dr Dawson Church, author of 'The Genie in Genes' and 'Soul Medicine' says, “Acupoint tapping sends signals directly to the stress centers of the mid-brain, not mediated by the frontal lobes (the thinking part, active in talk therapy).” Because EFT simultaneously accesses stress on physical and emotional levels, he adds, “EFT gives you the best of both worlds, body and mind, like getting a massage during a psychotherapy session.”
One of the many benefits of this technique is EFT’s ability to access the amygdala, an almond-shaped part of your brain that initiates your body’s negative reaction to fear. In a state of stress, we lose the ability to remember the resources and options we have available because our body is in a state of 'fight or flight'. The tapping signals to your body you are calm and safe and return to a balanced state.
